Daily Market Wrap

I’m glad to get the Fed out of the way here. No surprises again, but people were on hold so far this week in anticipation of the Fed meeting. With the Fed out of the way, now we can finally decide where this market is going. My impression is that its going moderately higher, but trading is going to be tied to labor market data going forward.

I want to touch briefly on the uranium market here. We’ve had 5 straight […]

I’ve just finished listening to the entire NYMEX conference call, and highly recommend that anyone with a stake in OPBL.OB sit down and listen as well. There was a good amount of information there, particularly in the Q&A session. I’ve got a lot of notes and they are a bit disjointed, but here we go:

  • NYMEX growth in options trading was 62% for 2006. Electronic options trading is already very popular since its launch on September 5th. They see continued growth […]

Paladin released their quarterlyoperations report yesterday. I haven’t looked through it yet as I’m currently working on more stuff with OPBL, but I will be checking it out shortly. Here’s a link:

From Marketwatch: “NYMEX announced today that it set a daily volume record for natural gas futures on the CME Globex electronic trading platform yesterday.

Natural gas futures reached a record 130,627 contracts, surpassing the 126,015 contracts traded on January 19.

NYMEX launched its physically settled futures contracts for trading on CME Globex during regular open outcry trading hours on September 5, following its initial offering of financially settled, standard-sized and NYMEX miNY energy futures contracts […]

We’ve already had a spate of economic data today, and I think the numbers are important for every investor to understand. I will start by adding the caveat that these numbers are only telling us about the past…it is our job to use them to figure out where we’re going.

The fourth quarter GDP numbers came in very strong, with GDP growing 3.5%, higher than the 3.0% that was being expected by economists. The consumer price index, meanwhile, fell by 0.8%, […]

It’s days like today that make the stock market fun. Despite the rather dull trade on the big board, today was full of interesting stories on the bulletin board. If you’re reading the blog for the first time today, I would especially highlight my profile for SCOM.OB this morning. There’s a decent amount of info there to get you started. I want to touch on a number of different stocks, so I’ll run down the list quickly.

    OPBL.OB–Despite the recent price […]

    OPBL shakeout

    January 30, 2007 | Leave a Comment

I think we’re seeing the last of the selling. I believe that right now the long institutions are trying to shake out the weak hands by painting the tape and ditching a few thousand shares into the bid to provoke selling. However, after each little spate of selling, the stock has jumped back up quickly on light volume. This indicates fewer holders are falling for their attempts at creating a panic, and as soon as they’re satisfied that they’ve run […]

3 cents per share in FY 2006. At first glance the results are solid, but this is an ominous statement:

“FY 2006 marked the first year of profitability for the company in many years,” said Jim Barry, Megadata’s President and CEO. “However, due to the timing of both shipments to customers and the manufacturing of PASSUR units, we anticipate the 1st quarter FY 2007, while improved sharply over the corresponding FY 2006 1st quarter, will be close to breakeven.”

    Frankly, that […]

I have written a bit about Sharps Compliance Corp, but today I’d like to dedicate a longer posting to it and share a more in depth report on the company. I’m going to copy some basic information found in the company’s press release, and then provide some commentary.
    The profile:

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Sharps is a leading provider of cost-effective medical waste disposal solutions for industry and consumers. The Company’s primary products include the Sharps Disposal by Mail System®, Pitch-It(TM) […]

For the time being, the market appears to be range bound. Today’s trade was rather disinterested, and I think we’re going to have to wait a few weeks while the market digests earnings and the Fed before we see any real move.

That being said, the bulletin board is still full of volatility. OPBL.OB sank on lighter volume, but the action was still bullish as the volume was dominated by large block buying on the dips. I will also point out […]
