I have gotten several emails questioning the fact that NTRZ’s Q4 results were delayed from yesterday after the close to Monday before the open. Obviously, I have no more information than anyone else, but I don’t think the news is particularly significant as far as what we’re going to see with operating results. The conference call was always scheduled for Monday, and what I think NTRZ realized is that it was pointless (and bad PR) to release results […]

Weekly market wrap

In my view, we are beginning to arrive at a very perilous point for the markets. The growth data continues to be mixed, but inflation data has yet to show much of a sign of slowing down, which is going to be a big problem for the Fed going forward. We must be cognizant that with the US government and consumer debt situation, inflation has significant momentum because the demand for money continues to be very high. […]

GDP data

March 29, 2007 | 2 Comments

This morning´s GDP data presented some interesting statistics, especially regarding inflation, which was revised a bit lower. That said, inflation still appears to be a problem, and the market is being held back at the moment by inflation worries. If tomorrow´s inflation data comes in benign, we should be looking to move higher.

That said, I am not that confident that the data will come in benign. Inflation will see pressure from energy and food prices, […]

Some thoughts

I am still traveling at present, and trying to get to the computer when possible, but at present I have shotty internet access. Having looked at the numbers for today, I don´t think there is any move of consequence going on. I will admit that my inability to pay attention to ABAT over the last few days has cost me some money, but I still believe the stock has significant upside, and it is starting to get a […]

Daily Market Wrap

March 26, 2007 | 3 Comments

The market showed some real character today by taking the housing data and rebounding to end the day mostly unchanged. The ability to ignore data that is not particularly helpful shows that the rally is not being sold at the first chance, which is a good sign. That said, today’s data is not really that important because it was predictable. Everyone knows that subprime is a disaster, and it is not a big leap to extrapolate that […]

Just wanted to note that OPBL announced today that it is acquiring HQ Trading, a specialist broker in crude oil derivatives. HQ is privately held, so it is difficult to know exactly what their financial situation is, but this should help OPBL expand the range of its energy complex rather nicely. OPBL has said that they expect the acquisition to be neutral to 2007 earnings.

I don’t know enough about HQ to make any specific comments, but […]

I´m still on the road, so my posting schedule has been irregular. I should be in better contact by Monday. Having looked at yesterday´s action, everything appears to be intact. ABAT took a bit of a hit yesterday, but having been up so much so quickly, the pullback is not unexpected. With regards to ABAT, my strategy going forward likely be to take profits around the $2.25 mark and let the rest of the position ride. […]

I am currently on the road and wasn´t able to make it to the computer yesterday but from looking at the day, my portfolio holdings looked reasonably solid. ABAT in particular has been climbing strongly, and appears ready to surge over the $2 mark any day now. We should be on guard for anything that looks like a reversal of the rally here, but for the moment, the bias appears to be upward over the next few weeks.

As per […]

Today was the confirmation day that we’ve been looking for. Of course, just because the market has confirmed the rally doesn’t mean that the rally will stick, but it is now safe to go on the long side. With purchases of ABAT and OPBL in the last few days, I’ve staked my claim to the rally, but if you were being conservative and waiting on the sidelines, tomorrow looks ripe for buying. However, do keep in mind […]

On Monday Cameco updated their remediation of the Cigar Lake mine, with production now targeted for 2010. This is a full year behind their estimate in late 2006, but my sense is that the news is largely priced into the market at this point, given the fact that Cameco had delayed the estimate twice since the remediation process began in November. However, it remains to be seen whether Cameco will be able to execute on its promises, so […]
