Breaking down the natural gas report
February 8, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Natural gas supplies declined 224 bcf this week, greater than the 218 bcf decline expected by analysts and well above the 5 year average decline of 148bcf. However, even with this relatively large draw, supplies remain 378 bcf (19%) higher than the 5 year average supply for this time of year. Early estimates for next weeks draw range from 221 bcf to 252 bcf.
Here’s my read: the market is not rallying off of this draw, as it would have needed […]

Daily Market Wrap
February 7, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Last Monday, I wrote about my view that the market was likely range bound over the near term. The last two days worth of trading have served to mostly confirm this sentiment, as trading has been generally rather slow. Although the indices are drifting higher, there is no real conviction behind the market right now. Eventually something will have to give one way or the other, and that will probably be determined by interest rates. For now, however, stocks look […]

Daily Market Wrap
January 30, 2007 | Leave a Comment
It’s days like today that make the stock market fun. Despite the rather dull trade on the big board, today was full of interesting stories on the bulletin board. If you’re reading the blog for the first time today, I would especially highlight my profile for SCOM.OB this morning. There’s a decent amount of info there to get you started. I want to touch on a number of different stocks, so I’ll run down the list quickly.
OPBL.OB–Despite the recent price […]

Natural gas update
December 21, 2006 | Leave a Comment
The natural gas storage numbers this week didn’t do much to help prop up the market, but prices saw a bounce after touching a 2 year low earlier this week. I don’t really see the supply situation balancing out for quite some time, and wouldn’t advise still wouldn’t advise putting money to work in this sector just yet.
As far as ASPN goes, it continues to trickle down toward the $3 mark on capitulation selling as the despair about gas prices […]

ASPN price movements
December 10, 2006 | Leave a Comment
ASPN has continued to trickle downward to the $3.30 level after last week’s supply data showed a withdrawal of only 11 BCF. I would classify the report as rather bearish, considering the cold weather had heightened expectations of a larger withdrawal. I believe there is the potential for further weakness in the stock, although more likely I think is the possibility of it sitting in a range of $3.20 to $3.50 over the next few weeks. At the moment, I […]

Profiling a couple of natgas producers
December 2, 2006 | Leave a Comment
Powder River Basin Gas Corp (PRVB.OB) has gotten the attention of a lot of bulls lately. However, I simply cannot endorse the stock until it becomes cash flow positive from its gas operations. Sure it has positive earnings and is priced cheaply, but its money is coming from exploring and then flipping natural gas properties. This leaves them very vulnerable to a string of dry wells, and I see too much risk that the company could just fold up shop. […]
