Today was a solid but by no means overwhelming day for the general market. I would caution investors that the Dow and S&P gains are a bit inflated by the huge move in Alcoa today, so the general sentiment was only mildly bullish even though the Dow and S&P shot up more than 0.7 percent. I don’t think we are out of the range bound syndrome quite yet.

Last Monday, I wrote about my view that the market was likely range bound over the near term. The last two days worth of trading have served to mostly confirm this sentiment, as trading has been generally rather slow. I’m glad to get the Fed out of the way here. No surprises again, but people were on hold so far this week in anticipation of the Fed meeting. With the Fed out of the way, now we can finally decide where this market is going. My impression is that its going moderately higher, but trading is going to be tied to labor market data going forward.
